Get a Self-Image Makeover
April 28, 2010 by Nisha
I think it’s always good every few month to give yourself a self-esteem booster and remind yourself that you are perfect just the way you are. I was talking to a friend about how so many young girls that I work with have self-image issues. We were talking about ways to makeover their self-images, so they can be more confident and proud of themseleves.
Below are some tips that I think everyone can use to makeover their self image once in while:
- Find an old photo. A photo where you remember being worried free and really enjoying the moment. Keep this photo where you can see it and remind yourself of that feeling.
- Write down things you are great at doing.
- Once you know what you are great at, find ways to share it with others.
- Write down your best qualities and then the ones you want as well.
- Compliment others. This will help you feel better inside as well.
I know some of these sound cheesy, but they do work. And don’t worry no one else will see it but you. It’s a great way to boost yourself when you are down.
What are some other suggestions you have?

Toss 10 items for a Better Home
April 21, 2010 by Nisha
I am a pack rat, I hate throwing things away. For example, I still have grade school assignments that I will never need again packed away in boxes at my parents’ house. Every time my mom talks about throwing them away, I tell her that I need them. And we all know that is not the truth; I just don’t like letting things go.
This carries over into my apartment as well. I have certain things I get attached to such as my pillows or certain blankets. I read this article the other day at the changed my mind on this whole pack rat thing I had going on. It talked about how certain items need to be thrown out because they can carry bacteria, cause allergies, and become unsanitary. Below is the list of 10 items and the self life:
- Replace pillows every year
- Toss your mattress after 5 to 10 years
- Change smoke alarms after 10 years
- Keep air conditioners until they die
- Replace vitamins after 2 years
- Toss fire extinguishers every 10 years
- Discard contact lens solution after 3 months
- Replace your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months
- Throw away eye makeup 6 months after opening
- Toss antibacterial cream after 1 year
Even if you rent like I do, it’s good to check the dates on the fire extinguisher and alarm to make sure they are working correctly.

Spring into Shape for Free

Next month is my birthday, so that means my gym membership will be going up. I am not sure if it’s worth my money to continue paying a gym membership when the apartment complex has a fitness center and I can always go outside or buy fitness videos.
After reading this article on Yahoo! the other day, I am leaning towards not renewing my membership. Some of the tips that I thought are very useful are:
- Go outdoors. You can either take a run/walk alone or join a bootcamp. I love the idea of a bootcamp; I think it will be a lot more motivational for me.
- Incorporate exercise into your daily life. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. During your lunch break, eat 30 minutes and walk 30 minutes.
- Find a high school or college stadium near you and run the stairs. Also, you can run sprints on the grass.
- Get a virtual personal trainer. There are many websites that offer free training programs.
- Get virtual fitness classes/programs. A very popular one right now is the PX90; I have not tried it myself. I have heard a lot of my friends say that it is very challenging.
Have you tried any of the tips above in your exercise regimen?

Thought for the Week

You have to do what you love to do, not get stuck in that comfort zone of a regular job. Life is not a dress rehearsal. This is it.
Lucinda Basset
I know that I love what I do professionally and personally. Professionally, I get to use my creative and organization skills which I love to do. Personally, I volunteer and help struggling youth. I love being of service and helping young women. The feeling I get it indescribable and I know if I was ever in their situation, I would hope someone would help me as well. Life is too short not to do the things we love. We are only given today, so we need to make sure we make the most of it.
Do you love what you do? If not, what is it that you love to do?

Money Saving Tips
April 9, 2010 by Nisha
I am always looking for great ways to save money any way that I can. I recently found this article on Yahoo! about saving on electricity. It had a few very helpful tips that I have no implemented in my home. Below are some of my favorite tips:
- Wash only full loads in your dishwasher and let your dishes air dry. I usually only use my dishwasher as a place to dry my dishes that I wash myself.
- Clean your filters regularly. If you have dirty filters, the system has to work double to get air out.
- Use cold to warm water when doing laundry.
- If you’re not using your computer, put it on sleep mode.
I have not received my latest electricity bill, but I am sure it has gone down a good bit. I was pretty much doing all of the things the list advises us not to do. I also feel better about using this energy saving tactics because I am helping the environment.
Do you have any other tips that you like to use?
